L’Estate Italiana: 4 Ways To Soak In The Summer

This post was written by and in collaboration with The Italy Edit

Visiting Italy is always an excellent idea — especially in the summer. What's not to love about eating outside, lounging by the sea, taking endless road trips, and embracing Italian summer fashion? From coastal cities and endless beach clubs to limitless aperitivo hours, here’s how to enjoy l'estate italiana.

Embrace the Lettino Life

Italians are masters of beach life. The country is made up of informal cafés, seaside restaurants, and little kiosks offering everything you need right on the beach, from umbrellas and beach chairs to seafood and peaches soaking in white wine that dots the nearly 8,000 km of Italian coastline. Even in the most popular areas like Capri and the Amalfi Coast, our favorite Italian beach bars remain casual and relaxed, just to our liking.

Lettino life is the finest way to experience Italy's beaches. Beach bars with colorful loungers and umbrellas can be found all over. Discover some of our favorites.

Protect Your Skin

Italian women take pride in their bella figura, which also includes skincare and beauty routines. From natural sunscreen to hair masks and rose petal blush, they opt for high-quality, versatile products that are Made In Italy.

The Mediterranean sun shines bright, and skin protection is a must. We love adesso beauty's newest product, the Transparent Sun Stick with SPF 50+, which hydrates and protects sensitive areas under the eyes and lips while being packed with nourishing ingredients.

If you are in Rome between June 13th-15th, swing by Edicola Erno, where we will be hosting The Italian Travel & Beauty Shop in collaboration with adesso beauty, and shop all our favorite skincare products.

Island Hop

When we are not sunbathing at our local spiaggia , we’re island hopping. After all, Italy is home to beloved coastlines but over 400 islands spread around in the Mediterranean, Tyrrhenian, Ionian, and Adriatic Seas.

One of southern Italy's most incredible natural and cultural treasures are  the Isole Eolie located right off the coast of northeastern Sicily. The archipelago, created over time by volcanic eruptions, comprises seven islands with distinct identities. We love exploring one these islands by sailboat.

When we want to go somewhere closer to home (in Rome), we head to glorious holiday destinations like Ischia and Ponza

Celebrate Summer Style

From strappy sandals and flowy kaftans to colorful dresses and woven baskets, Italian women look chic in every season. Whether you're embracing that boat life or strolling through the city,  our must-have pick for breezy and beautiful Italian summer fashion will keep you up to speed with seasonal fashion essentials.

Remember to pack a pair of statement shades to complete the look. No matter the season, an Italian woman will never leave the house without them. We prefer playful shapes and vibrant hues in the summer months to elevate even the simplest linen ensembles. Discover some of our favorite artisanal Italian sunglass designers here.
